Academic Department
As a College Internship Program (CIP) student, your individual academic and vocational goals will be reviewed and considered prior to the establishment of your academic program. It is the aim of the Academic team at the College Internship Program to provide a support system, which will enable each student to achieve the greatest academic success possible.
The Academic Department at the College Internship Program (CIP) consists of the Academic Dean and several academic tutors. You will have the opportunity to participate in both individual and small group instruction in basic study areas as well as receive assistance with time management, organizational skills and study skills.
Individual and Small Group Tutorials
As a student at the College Internship Program, you will typically attend two individual tutoring sessions per week, which are designed to improve basic academic skill levels.

These Academic Assistance classes are held Sunday through Thursday between 7 and 9 p.m. and are supervised by qualified academic staff.
Students also have group tutorials and form study groups for further assistance. CIP offers reading remediation with trained Wilson tutors for those with dyslexia and other language based learning disabilities.
College Internship Program In-House Classes
The College Internship Program offers curriculum in the following areas: Critical Thinking, Current Events, Organizational Skills, Time Management Skills, Study Skills, Library Research Skills, Communication, Health Issues, Government and basic understanding of civic responsibilities, Reading and Writing Skills, Life Skills, Math and Banking Skills.
Computer Lab

A modern Computer Room with all computers connected to the Internet and assistive technology especially designed for students with Learning Differences, is accessible.
A scanner is available to scan textbooks or other materials. IBM Via Voice, Cowriter and Inspiration are programs that assist in paper writing.
Kurzweil is available to read texts and improve reading skills. Software to assist with keyboarding and math skills is also available, as well as Lexia, which is designed to assist students challenged by dyslexia.
*New students are required to bring a laptop with compatible 802.11 G wireless card.
Berkshire Community College
Many students at the College Internship Program choose to attend classes at Berkshire Community College (additional cost). They have two campuses: one in Pittsfield and one in Great Barrington. BCC offers both Associates Degree and Certificate Programs.
If you desire to take classes at the Community College, CIP will assist you in establishing appointments with Berkshire Community College's Office for Students with Disabilities and the BCC Testing Center so that a Learning Skills Assessment can be scheduled. The Disabilities Coordinator will determine what accommodations you may be eligible for when you take the test. The BCC website is www.berkshirecc.edu

Accommodations awarded are dependent upon psychological documentation, which you submit to the Disabilities Coordinator. Most students receive the minimum accommodation of extra time.
Business School
You may also wish to look into taking classes at Mildred Elley Business School for Careers in Pittsfield (additional cost). Mildred Elley is a post-secondary business and career school that offers classes in computers, business applications, bookkeeping, hospitality, paralegal and medical assistant studies. You can work towards certification or take individual courses for resume building.

Self-Advocacy
You will work with academic staff to gain a more thorough understanding of your learning differences and how they affect your academic programs. You will learn how to better advocate for the academic accommodations that you require. This is an ongoing process.
